Rashmi Sharma is pursuing doctoral program in the Educational Administration, at Ohio University, with a focus on the education and empowerment of rural women of India.  She has worked over ten years with marginalized rural mountain communities in the Central Himalayan Region of India. A Ford Foundation Fellowship provided her with the opportunity to pursue a Masters in International Studies with a concentration in Communication and Development at Ohio University. She believes that women’s roles in the education of their children is critical especially in ensuring the enrollment and retention of these children in school. In order to promote a women’s role in education of children, their own empowerment needs to involve creating opportunities for self-paced learning and literacy. In the future, she aspires to be a professional who is a lifelong learner and facilitator of social change through education.
